New £565,000 Co-op store opening in Hucknall – creating 20 jobs
The Co-op will open its latest Nottinghamshire shop next to a new major housing development in Hucknall.
It has invested £565,000 on the convenience store in Emperor’s Way, off Papplewick Lane, which is expected to open on Thursday, July 20, and will create 20 jobs.
The 4,000 sq ft branch will be the largest of four retail units that have been built next to the 1,000-home development in the north-east side of the town.
An in-store bakery, food-to-go range and Costa coffee dispenser will be included in the shop, alongside fresh and healthy foods, ready meals, wines and essentials.
Kelly Watson, store manager for the new Co-op, said: “We are thrilled to have made such a significant investment in Hucknall – it is an exciting time for the whole team.
“The Co-op is moving forward with a clear purpose and momentum. Our ambition is to establish the store as a local hub, a real asset for the community.”
The new store will also deliver a funding boost for local good causes through its membership scheme.
Members receive a five percent reward on the purchase of own-branded products and services, with a further one percent benefitting local good causes.
Groups initially set to benefit include the 2nd Kimberley Scout Group; Beardall Fields Primary School, which is raising money to fund the cost of a defibrillator; and the Rumbletums Community Cafe and Training Project to support its work to provide training, confidence building and interview skills designed for young people in the area with learning disabilities.
Ms Watson added: “We want shoppers to know that they can become a co-owner and member of their Co-op.
“We are also giving back to the community. Our members can make a difference locally, simply by swiping their membership card when they shop with us they can raise much needed funding for organisations in the area who contribute to improving local life.”

The new branch adds to other Co-op stores in Hucknall, including in Watnall Road and Portland Road.
It will be neighbour children’s charity Barnado’s, which is opening a 1,000 sq ft shop in the shopping complex, and two other units.
The site was built to serve a new £250m mixed-use development in Hucknall that will provide 900,000 sq ft of employment space and 900 new homes on a 150-acre former Rolls-Royce site off Watnall Road. Work began last summer.
