Go Gateshead is the newly developed brand for Gateshead Council’s sport and leisure service, and operates 6 high quality facilities, including the iconic Gateshead International Stadium, and a community sport and physical activity development function.

Our facilities include the state of the art Technogym equipment in gyms, high quality fitness studios as well as sports halls, squash courts, multi function rooms and a Flow rider.

Go Gateshead is focussed on achieving a vision of operating without a subsidy from Gateshead Council by 2020, delivering high quality facilities and services that meet the demands of our customers.

As an experienced sport and leisure professional, this is an exciting opportunity to join our senior management team, and demonstrate your management and leadership skills. The successful applicant will drive, influence and develop the business ensuring this his ambitious new vision that will shape the service over the next 3 years is delivered.

You will have considerable experience and a proven track record in the leisure industry, vast operational knowledge, a flair for business and commercial awareness that will help achieve our sales and income targets set out in the facility business plan.

Exploring new business opportunities will be a key part of the role, creating and building new and existing partnerships within the Council, local businesses and the community.

Our Marketing, Sales and Communications team will be work closely with you to turn your business plan into a success.

Overseeing all functions of the one or more of our leisure facilities, you will recruit, manage and motivate a team to aspire and achieve. The team will ensure exceptional customer service, standards of cleanliness and an experience our current and new customers expect and demand.

The successful candidate will be empowered to create change, bring new thinking and fresh perspectives.

Knowledge of relevant legislation and professional issues, the principles of continued professional development and service improvement initiatives, and financial management is essential. Applicants will also have experience of managing budgets within a trading environment.

Candidates must hold a relevant IOSH qualification and 5 GCSE grades A to C or equivalent.

Experience of managing leisure facilities, working with external agencies, voluntary groups and volunteers, and the use of Microsoft Office applications, is essential.
