Job opening: Philadelphia seeking temporary DA to run large office

Saturday, July 8th, 2017 - Jobs

An official notice has gone out seeking candidates to replace Seth Williams as Philadelphia’s district attorney.   The city should have a new district attorney in two weeks.

It’s called a “notice to the bar,” and it’s an invitation from the board of Common Pleas judges for qualified candidates to apply for the position of district attorney. The person appointed will hold the post only until January, when the winner of the November election for district attorney is sworn in to office.

Williams resigned a week ago after pleading guilty to federal corruption charges.

Common Pleas Court President Judge Sheila Woods-Skipper said the three most senior judges will review the applications.

“We’re just hoping for an efficient process in order to restore stability and integrity and a sense of justice to the public at large,” she said.

The qualifications include being an attorney in good standing and a city resident for at least one year.

The judges will meet July 19 with qualified applicants, and gather on  July 20 to select the interim district attorney.
