Co. Jobs: Workforce Development Month Events

DENVER, CO – From the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment: September has been declared Workforce Development Month by Governor John Hickenlooper, and each week during the month workforce centers across the state will be hosting a variety of hiring events and resource fairs for job seekers and employers.

This year’s annual focus on workforce issues wraps up with these events:

September 25: Employment First Career and Resource Event
The Employment First program provides job training and support for individuals receiving food assistance. On September 25, Arapahoe/Douglas Works offers a free career and resource fair at 14980 E. Alameda Drive in Aurora (in the Littleton Meeting Room) from 9 am to 12 pm. For more information about the event including the participating employers and to register to attend, go to adworks.org and click on “Upcoming Events.”

September 25: Job Fair Boot Camp
The Mesa County Workforce Center will present a 2-hour workshop that shows the recruiting and hiring process from the perspective of Human Resources personnel. In this event, you’ll learn from HR professionals what they look for and what is most important to them. The workshop takes place at 512 – 29 ½ Road in Grand Junction from 9 am to 11 am. The Boot Camp is timed to give job seekers this helpful information in preparation of the Mesa County Job Fest Job Fair which will be held on October 5.

September 25: Industry Panel Discussion
The Mesa County Workforce Center located at 512 – 29 ½ Road in Grand Junction will present a panel discussion from 1 pm to 4 pm with business leaders from four industries: Manufacturing, Hospitality, Healthcare and Energy. This will be an opportunity for job seekers to learn about careers in these industrie and what they have to offer. For more information and to register for the presentation, call 970-248-0871.

September 26: Careers In Manufacturing: A Career Development Seminar
Did you know there are occupations in the Manufacturing Industry that involve operating computer-controlled machines and robots to perform various functions? Learn about a wealth of exciting career possibilities in Manufacturing at the Pueblo Workforce Center, 212 West 3rd Street from 9 am to 10:30 am. September 26: La Junta Autumn Job Fair
The Southeast Colorado Workforce Center in La Junta invites job seekers to a job fair on Tuesday, September 26, from 3 pm to 6 pm in the Banquet Room of Otero Junior College, 2001 San Juan Avenue in La Junta. Whether you’re ready to make a major career transition or simply want to explore your options, you’ll find employers at this event who will be interested in talking with you. The job fair is free but job seekers must pre-register by visiting the La Junta Workforce Center at 308 Santa Fe Avenue(or call 719-383-3191).
September 26: Pueblo Job Fair
The Pueblo Workforce Center is joining forces with Pueblo Community College for the 2017 Southern Colorado Job Fair to be held from 9 am to 12 pm at the Sangre de Cristo Arts and Conference Center, 210 North Santa Fe Avenue in Pueblo.The job fair is free but job seekers must pre-register by visiting the Pueblo Workforce Center at 212 W 3rd Street (or call 719-562-3720).

September 26: Workforce Boulder County Open House
Workforce Boulder County will hold an open house at St. Vrain Community Hub, 515 Coffman Street in Longmont from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm on September 26. The event is designed to showcase the variety of services available to business owners and job seekers, all offered free of charge. The public is invited to stop in, meet the staff and learn about the many services available. For more information, call 303-413-7555.

September 27: Sterling Workforce Center Customer Appreciation Day

The Sterling Workforce Center at 100 Broadway, Suite 24, will hold an open house on Wednesday, September 27, from 8 am to 12 pm and again from 1 pm to 4 pm. The event is designed to showcase the variety of services available to business owners and job seekers, all offered free of charge. The public is invited to stop in, meet the staff and learn about the many services available.

September 27: Employer 101 Seminar for Employers

The Walsenburg Workforce Center will offer Employment 101, a free educational seminar on Colorado’s anti-discrimination laws in employment at 928 Russell Street from 2 to 4 pm. A representative from Colorado’s Civil Rights Division will explain how to meet the challenge of being in compliance with anti-discrimination labor laws. September 28: Workforce Boulder County Employer Appreciation Breakfast
The staff of Workforce Boulder County holds an Employer Appreciation Breakfast from 8 am to 10 am at Xilinx Retreat Center, 1951 Fordham Road in Longmont on September 28. It’s an opportunity for staff to thank long-standing employer customers and to meet and talk with employers who have never used the free services. To RSVP, call 720-864-6600.

September 29: Southern Colorado Job Fair
The Pueblo Workforce Center offers this recruitment event from 9 am to 12 pm at the Sangre de Cristo Arts and Conference Center, 210 N. Santa Fe Avenue in Pueblo. Bring your resume and meet with representatives from employers across Southern Colorado.
In addition, there are several virtual job fairs taking place right now at www.connectingcolorado.org. For details about these and other events, visit coworkforce.gov. Events will also be posted to Facebook and Twitter.

Workforce Development Month is a time to focus on creating a stronger and more competitive Colorado. In his proclamation, Governor Hickenlooper notes that “In working together, we can solve the toughest problems. Colorado is finding approaches that will expand apprenticeships, encourage more diversity in hiring, enhance regional workforce development and ensure that Colorado is the best place to work in America.”
